I just performed my 1st official “Feature”.
I’ve performed many feature-length sets, but this was the first time I’ve been billed as the actual “Feature” for a paid comedy show. It was special, and I am grateful for the experience.
Several firsts:
- I received a % of the “door.” Money was the last thing on my mind. At this stage of my career I’m developing my art, and even though I’ve been paid for performances in the past, this felt different. I guess it’s because I was being paid for performing, rather than just working on a show? Normally I get paid for MC or corporate work. It’s pre-arranged, and “sterile.” (Someone needs a comedian to do a job.) This time, it’s about my comedy! I’m earning money because customers value my jokes!
- People attend comedy shows for one of two reasons: The venue, or the performer. I’m used to “venue-attendees”. A typical compliment from a “venue-fan” is: “We’ve seen you several times and we always enjoy your show.” This time however, multiple strangers came specifically to see me! They were there BECAUSE I was performing!
My goal is: To be valued by many!
